Private First Class Lavern Michael Lamey was born on November 7, 1949 to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph J. Lamey of Milan, Michigan. Lavern is a 1967 graduate of Lincoln Consolidated High School. He entered the Army on July 18, 1967 receiving his Basic Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He completed his Advanced Training at Fort Polk, Louisianna.

Private First Class Lamey began his tour of duty in Dak To, Kontum Province, South Vietnam on December 16, 1968 serving as a Grader Operator with the 15th Engineering Company, 299th Engineering Battalion, 937th Engineering Group,Lavern Michael Lamey. Lavern was killed by enemy mortar fire on March 5, 1969.

Lavern Michael Lamey is survived by his parents, his wife, a brother and two sisters. He lived 19 years, 3 months and 28 days. He is resting in Marble Park Cemetery in Milan, Michigan. Lavern's name is listed on the Vietnam Memorial in Ypsilanti Township under Milan. His name also appears on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC on Panel 30W Line 047.
